Clay Hedgehogs: Senior Infants

We spoke about hedgehogs recently - how they are nocturnal creatures and about what they like to eat.We guessed how many spines they had - Chloe came very very close saying 4800 !They have between 5000 and 7000 so that was a brilliant guess..We made our own hedgehogs out of clay and stuck in lots of spines,not quite 5000 but quite a lot!

Titch: Junior Infants

A friendly witch has come to stay in our classroom. Her name is Titch The Witch.  Her broom stopped working and so she is staying in our classroom at night making potions and leaving notes for us to find in the morning.  We all work together and write a note back to Titch every morning.  We think of the questions we'd like to ask Titch and teacher writes it all down on the note for Titch.  Titch sometimes leaves Halloween activities and art ideas for us to try out.  She left lots of decorations for us and we all helped to put them up in the class to make Titch feel at home. 

We made spooky spiders from clay. 

Hallowe'en Art, Junior Infants

Our Apple Trees, Junior Infants

The kids painted apple trees using green and brown and gold for the sun. They stuck on fabric apples . I hung some of them out on the corridoor and they are much admired .

Hallowe'en bats, Senior Infants

We made these cool bats this week. First we painted a large paper plate and a small paper plate black. When dry we stuck on the ears, feet and wings. We stuck on some googly eyes and we used assorted foam shapes for the nose and mouth. We also decorated our bats with chalk. Our bats have made their home hanging in our classroom. We were wondering if they come out at night?!!!

 

Pumpkin persons, Senior Infants

We made these cute Pumpkin persons today in art. First we had to colour in all the various parts. Then we cut them out (there was a lot of cutting out to do!!!). Then we had to put  all the bits of our pumpkin person together on a large piece of paper and we decorated the background. They turned out great. Have a look!!

Witch Masks

We painted witch masks yesterday.  We stuck cardboard on the back of the masks.  Today we cut out the masks, and teacher stuck a skewer on the back of each one.  We are delighted with them.  Some of them look scary and others just look great.  When teacher hung them on the line at the window, then lowered the blinds, the sunlight shone through the eyes and it looked a bit spooky!!!  We are getting ready for Halloween at the end of this month.

Harry the Hedgehog

We made these hedgehogs out of clay. They were really great fun to make. First teacher gave each of us some clay and we had to throw and bang the clay down on the table to remove all the air pockets.Then we moulded our clay into the shape of a hedgehog. We stuck match sticks into the clay and then left it to dry completely for a few days. Lastly we painted our hedgehogs brown.
